DR. SANDRA HUISH
DENTIST & OWNER OF KITSILANO SMILES

My life began in Guayaquil, Ecuador, where I was born, raised and educated. I chose to go into dentistry because I liked the idea of being able to help people by relieving their pain and making a difference in their smiles. I also found the artist side of dentistry to be very appealing!

I obtained my dental degree from the University of Guayaquil.-Ecuador, and then in 1989, I arrived in Vancouver. By 1998, I achieved my qualifications to become a dentist in Canada. I worked as an associate dentist until 2007, when I bought the practice of Dr. Clive Bethel.

Since then, my associates and I strive to provide the highest standards of care in general and family dentistry. I am an associate professor with the Faculty of Dentistry at the University of British Columbia. I was a founding member of the Geriatric Program at UBC, which began in 2001. I continue to provide dental care to geriatric patients through the Program and in private practice. 

In 2013 I received a service award from the College of Dental Surgeons for my years of participation in the Geriatric Dental Committee. In 2016 I became a Fellow of the International College of Dentists. Providing excellent dental care requires continuing dental education.

In addition to attendance at regular dental courses, I have completed Invisalign Clear Certification level 1 and 2. In 2008, I obtained a Botox Cosmetic Certification. In 2009 I completed a course in facial fillers, Juvederm. 

​I recently re-named the practice Kitsilano Smiles because I am passionate about providing excellent dental care to my patients and I am a strong believer that the power of a smile starts with healthy teeth.

DR. SHARLENE TABATA
DENTIST

Dr. Sharlene Tabata is thrilled to join the Kitsilano Smiles dental group. Dr. Tabata was born in Vancouver, but grew up in Kamloops, British Columbia. After completing high school, she attended Okanagan College for Certified Dental Assisting. It was through dental assisting that she realized her passion for dentistry!

She returned to school at UBC, where she completed a degree in Human Nutrition and her Doctor of Dental Medicine. Dr. Tabata has worked over 26 years in private practice in Vancouver. 

During this time she also taught at the UBC Dental School as a clinical Pediatric instructor (1992-1997). She worked part time for Shaughnessy Hospital and UBC Specialty Clinic (1992-2009). 

On a personal note, Dr. Tabata is married with 3 adult children. She and her husband enjoy world travel.

DR. PAUL PREIS D.M.D
DENTIST

Dr. Paul Preis grew up in Poland and came to Canada in 1990. He received his Doctor of Dental Medicine degree from University of Manitoba in 1997. After practicing for 7 years in Manitoba in private practice he was able to fulfill his long time dream and move with his family to beautiful Victoria, BC in the summer of 2004. In 2016 he moved to Vancouver and is currently providing locum services in British Columbia.

His main focus of interest is in the medical and scientific component of modern dental therapy. Paul is passionate about the holistic approach to dental health and maintains that a beautiful, confident and radiant smile is one of the many factors that constitute a healthy and happy body.
